Sauna Service Concept Prototype

For my Metropolia UAS’s bachelor’s thesis and project
in Spring 2024 I studied what to take into consideration
when designing a Finnish public sauna service for foreign
tourists who are experiencing sauna for the very first time.
Another objective was to review some service design or
design thinking methods.

The result was a service concept prototype for a public
sauna. Sauna is an integral part of Finnish culture, and
although one cannot fully control the result of a sauna
experience, it is possible to stage an environment where
the sauna may be experienced in a positive way.

The project taught me the importance of multidisciplinary
teamwork, as I was the only person working on the
concept by myself. It is cliché, but “teamwork makes the
dream work” because collectively we have so much more
knowledge, skills and experience than by our ourselves.
